Music Symposium series of events launches with Synth Symposium
News: 20th November 2015 by Louise Dodgson under Music Training & Careers, Recording & Production

Celebrated musicians and technical experts are coming together to unravel the mysteries of how great music is made in a series of discussions that look at key disciplines in music making. The series starts with the Synth Symposium, which will explore the importance of the synthesizer in popular music and how to use them to best effect. The event will take place at Factory 251 in Manchester on Tuesday 1st December at 7pm with a panel to include Peter Hook, founder member of two of Britain’s most important bands, New Order and Joy Division, experimental electronic musician Graham Massey who came to prominence with 808 State, influential DJ and Producer Zed Bias plus technical guru and author of Synth Secrets Gordon Reid, with more to be confirmed.
The series is being put together by Manchester MIDI school and former Operations Director for Ministry Of Sound Tony Rigg, who developed the MIDI school Music Business & Event Management courses and collaborated with Peter Hook on setting up the Master of Arts Programme in Music Industry Management & Promotion at the University of Central Lancashire.
Talking about the series Rigg had this to say, “The tools to create and record music are more accessible now than ever before. You can have a convincing go at it on hand held devices with easy to use software. That said giving someone a block of wood and a chisel doesn’t make them a sculptor. The Music Symposiums will provide access to the insight and expertise of people who really know what they are talking about. This can only help to inform and inspire better music in the future.”
The Synth Symposium will see the panel of experts discussing key topics, talking about how they approach making music, and provide an opportunity for audience members to have their questions answered.
“When you get experts like these together discussing their views it’s really exciting. You find out things that you would never find out in an interview situation.” added MIDI School Principal Damian Fiedler.
The Synth Symposium is ideal for serious musicians and music makers, but with people seeking more immersive experiences these days it also provides a great opportunity for real music fans to get deeper into the music.
Future Symposiums will cover songwriting, production, performance, various vocal styles and other Instruments. Get your tickets via the link below...
