Manchester emerging musicians given chance to work with Everything Everything

News: 1st October 2014 by Louise Dodgson under Live, Music Training & Careers

Brighter Sound invites emerging musicians aged 18 – 25 years from across Greater Manchester to apply to be part of a unique opportunity to work on a project led by Mercury Award nominees Everything Everything during their anticipated artistic residency Manchester Central Library as part of the Library Live opening festivities.

The selected emerging artists will respond to the theme ‘Chaos To Order’, exploring the Library as an open space which everyone can use to learn, discover, explore and create. The building will be an inspiration – the books, archives, spaces and the community which uses the library.

Jeremy from Everything Everything said “As a band, we have long been attracted to chaos. Documenting the overload of information in which we live – its overwhelming vastness, its beauties and its dangers – has been central to our work.”

As an emerging musician in residence you will:

Be part of the residency week along with professional musicians and artists

Collaborate with other young musicians

Create your own original material

Work alongside innovative professional artists

Be part of a team led by professional musicians including Liam Frost and Sara Lowes.

Contribute to this unique high profile national event

The residency will take place in the magnificent Henry Watson Music Library, once the city-centre bolthole of the Hallé Orchestra’s famous conductor Sir John Barbirolli.  It has been sensitively restored in the library’s redevelopment. There are musical instruments to play, mini-stages as well collections of manuscripts and resource materials.

The recordings made during this time will be part of the Central Library’s live archive.

Who can apply?

All musicians aged 18 – 25 are invited to apply – any instrument, any genre.

The programme is aimed at “emerging musicians”. If you want to talk to us about whether this means you, please email or call Brighter Sound on 0161 830 3899.

The residency will take place from 10th – 15th November 2014, in Manchester Central Library and associated spaces.

Applicants must be available for the whole week to attend all sessions in person at Manchester Central Library.

Expenses: £120 for the week.

Application deadline: 5pm on Monday 13th October 2014
