Music journalists get the short end of the stick

News: 4th May 2010 by Louise Dodgson under Media

Magazine publishers Bauer who are behind music titles Mojo, Q and Kerrang!, as well as many other non musical publications, have got well and truly on the wrong side of freelance writers following the introduction of a new contract.

The revised conditions, which would mean writers would have to relinquish rights to their work, have raised such an uproar that around 200 journalists have joined forces to create and sign a petition. And until it's all sorted out to their satisfaction they will also be refusing to write for Bauer and it's related publications.

We've all become aware of the struggle which printed music publications have faced with the ever-burgeoning popularity of online sources of music news, reviews and info. This latest twist in the tale is certainly not good news for an already flagging area of the media. Let's hope a solution can be reached to keep all parties happy.
