So finally, after what seems like an eternity, the music industry has good news to report and BPI have reported statistics showing there has been a growth in music sales for the first time in years. Yes, it may be thanks to the likes of Susan Boyle, Take That and Lady Gaga, who are not exactly flying the flag for independent artists, but all the same this is great news for the wider music industry and economy. However, there is also the viewpoint that increased music sales are not the answer to the whole problem, and the issues raised by music piracy and illegal dowloading, such as artists receiving the proper monetary returns for their work, are still hanging overhead.
