Music Venue Trust launch #OwnOurVenues campaign

This week the Music Venue Trust have launched their most ambitious and innovative campaign yet, designed to protect the UK's grassroots gig venues.
They aim to make a radical change to the ownership of these gig venues, and remove landlords and private companies from that ownership, and replace them with a benevolent owner, Music Venue Properties, a new organisation set up by Music Venue Trust.
With 25% of grassroots music venues closing in the past 20 years, and over 90% of venues being tenants who have little control over their tenancy, Music Venue Properties will act as a central charitable organisation, allowing gig venues to become free of commercial ownership and own their own property.
9 venues across the UK have been selected for the pilot project, and the Music Venue Trust aim to raise £3.5 million to purchase these venues and secure their future.
