The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has announced the first speakers and sessions of its flagship independent music conference, AIM Connected, which returns as an in-person event at BAFTA’s iconic London headquarters on Thursday 10 March 2022.
AIM Connected is the UK’s high-level independent music conference and networking event, focussing on the themes of music business, tech and people. Expert speakers from across the industry will deliver keynotes, interviews, TED-style ‘Strong Opinions’ and interactive deep dive sessions, alongside speed-networking across the day.
AIM Connected will cover advanced topics and conversations aimed at music leaders and executives. It precedes AIM’s online conference ‘Future Independents’, which empowers early-stage and grassroots audiences of DIY artists, labels, managers and entrepreneurs.
AIM’s trademark ‘Strong Opinions’ will deliver cutting-edge hot takes from experts in a quick-fire, 15-minute keynote format followed by a Q&A. Those confirmed so far include ‘Life After Succession’ with Kate Osler, Managing Director of AEI Group, who will examine the challenges and learnings of taking over from an original company owner and continuing their legacy. Des Agyekumhene (Copyright PhD Researcher and Crypto entrepreneur) will provide the inside scoop on how to make the best use of NFTs at an executive level and what they mean for the wider music industry. Kushal Patel from Music Ally will review 2021 in the industry and identify key trends for the future in ‘Music Ally’s Top Trends for the Year Ahead’.
Global artist and label services and distribution company, !K7, has committed to becoming carbon neutral through the IMPALA Sustainability Programme. Its founder & CEO Horst Weidenmüller joins the event for an in-conversation with Sustainability and Environment Officer of Involved Group, Anna Johnson, who is currently working with MIT to benchmark Involved Group’s impact across both label and live operations. These AIM members will discuss their own businesses' responses to the climate emergency and the role that artists and music communities can play in raising awareness about environmental issues and the climate. Attendees will also learn about the tools and support available to help reduce their own businesses’ carbon emissions.
AIM’s Annual Platinum Partners: Amazon Music, Facebook, Merlin, PPL, Spotify and YouTube Music, will be delivering a range of interactive deep dive sessions on future-facing topics and engaging in networking sessions. The Annual Platinum Partners’ support helps AIM to deliver its industry-leading programming across the year.
One-on-one pre-booked networking sessions will give attendees the chance to connect with experts from across the industry in two themed sessions - ‘Meet the Annual Platinum Partners’ and ‘Business and Investment’. There will also be spaces and opportunities for informal networking and meetings with the multi-room setup at BAFTA. The conference will conclude with another chance to meet delegates and guests in a post-event drinks reception.
The event’s ‘Digital Marketplace’ gives digital businesses from the Friend of AIM network a physical presence at the conference, providing all AIM Connected delegates with a chance to connect with them and discover their innovative services for independent music businesses.
For its return as an in-person event, AIM Connected will be hosted at the iconic BAFTA 195 Piccadilly. Housed in an historic Grade II Listed building in the heart of London’s West End, BAFTA 195 Piccadilly is a world-class venue, reopening in 2022 after a five-year refurbishment of its state-of-the-art facilities.
Tickets are available from the link below. Subsidised member tickets start from £99+VAT for Rightsholder and Distributor members and £130+VAT for Friends of AIM. Non-member tickets are £250+VAT. Lunch, refreshments and networking drinks are included in the ticket price.
