Wide Days announce Artist Development Programme for Scottish bands and artists

News: 2nd July 2021 by Stef Loukes under Live, Music Training & Careers

Wide Events has unveiled its new artist mentoring programme, in partnership with PRS Foundation, to develop international opportunities for 6 acts based in Scotland.

Open to solo musicians, bands, songwriters, producers/DJs who write their own material and, for the first time, the mentoring programme will be open to producers and DJs who write their own material, as well as songwriters and composers who do not have a live show.

The initiative combines workshops and advice sessions, as well as a pre-recorded showcase as part of the hybrid version of the Wide Days convention set to take place on 12-13 August (details TBA). This will be followed by individual mentoring sessions tailored to each act.

“Artists from our 2020 programme were featured as part of the online editions of SXSW, CMJ, the Great Escape Festival, the International Live Music Conference and Germany’s c/o pop. And in most cases this happened while Scotland was still in lockdown!” says Wide Events director and Wide Days founder, Olaf Furniss.

“Through meetings initiated at Wide Days and our other online events, acts have also been taken on by professional music managers, booking agents and sync agents.”

The development programme includes 2 days of workshops covering topics such as promotion, social media, funding opportunities, law, collection societies (PRS, PPL, MCPS), health, stagecraft and practical advice relating to industry and showcase events. Each act will also benefit from a professional photoshoot, an individual consultation to determine priorities and introductions to professionals taking part in Wide Days.

Throughout the year they will also benefit from ongoing support from the Wide team and an industry mentor.
