Spotify launches new feature allowing fans to 'tip' directly to bands and artists

News: 24th April 2020 by Stef Loukes under Selling & Distributing Your Music

Spotify's latest feature 'Artist's Fundraising Pick' has been announced to allow fans of bands and artists to 'tip' them. By partnering with e-wallet services Paypal.me, GoFundMe and Cash App, Spotify can now facilitate direct payments so fans can donate and support the acts they love during these tricky times.

This new feature has raised some criticism from those who think that perhaps Spotify should just pay the bands and artists who make their streaming service possible better rates of streaming royalties in the first place, so they aren't so reliant on income from gigs - an income stream which is currently, and for the foreseeable future, not available.
