Spotify introduces songwriter & producer credits to platform

News: 8th February 2018 by Louise Dodgson under Music Publishing, Selling & Distributing Your Music

In the past week Spotify have added a new feature to their platform allowing desktop users to 'Show Credits' and view information on performers, songwriters and producers who created the song.

Tiffany Kumar, Global Head of Songwriter Relations at Spotify said: "With the newly launched credits feature, we aim to increase songwriter and producer visibility and, in turn, foster discovery among new collaborators, industry partners, and fans."

Whilst this is a positive step in the right direction, as the credit information is still provided to Spotify by record labels - who don't always deal with the songwriters - meaning there are still discrepancies in some of the information provided. This was broached by Spotify as follows:

“At launch, we’re showing information we have from record label-provided metadata, and will also display the source of the credits so you know where it’s coming from. We realise some of the label-provided credits are incomplete or may contain inaccuracies, but this is just the first step in displaying songwriter credits on Spotify. The feature will continually evolve to become more efficient, provide better functionality, and incorporate more information from industry partners over time”.
