Run your own music festival with Oxjam

News: 10th January 2018 by Louise Dodgson under Live

This time next year, you'll remember reading this post and how it was the start of the a truly amazing 2018! This marks the start of Oxjam18; where YOU can organise an amazing grassroots music festival that helps overcome poverty. Sound too good to be true? Read on…

Oxjam is a music festival like no other - it is the UK’s largest grassroots music festival. Not only does it help unearth musical gems including Everything Everything, Foals and Declan McKenna; who are all Oxjam Festival alumni, but it also raises thousands for Oxfam to help overcome poverty and suffering all over the world.

As an Oxjam Music Festival Manager in your town you will organise an incredible multi-venue, grassroots music event in October. Between now and then, you will liaise with venues and artists, recruit and manage a team of dedicated volunteers and organise a series of pre-festival events to raise funds and awareness of your festival. The most successful Oxjam Festivals truly embrace their local community; getting local businesses involved with sponsorship and volunteering packages, providing experience building opportunities for local students and seeking ways to work with local authorities.

Whilst it’d help to have event and volunteer management experience, they aren’t essential. What is essential is vision, great communication skills and most importantly, the drive, determination and tenacity to see you through some of the bumps in the road that all event organisers face. You won’t face these bumps alone though; we’ll provide you with great training and you’ll be supported every step of the way by the central Oxjam team and a Regional Engagement Manager.

There is only one festival per town/London Borough, which means Oxjam will only recruit one Festival Manager in each town. They try to do this on a rolling basis, so whilst they’re welcoming applications until March 5th, to avoid disappointed we would highly recommend getting your application in early.

For more information on how to apply head to the website below. Your completed application form can be emailed to [email protected] or sent to The Oxjam Team, Oxfam House, John Smith Drive, Oxford, OX4 2JY.

“Volunteering as Festival Manager was one of the best things I’ve ever done. It was great to learn about how music events run, from booking acts to on-the-day management and everything in between. I don’t think anything will beat the feeling of accomplishment.” – Oxjam 2017 Festival Manager
