Artist to fan direct selling could overtake music retail as we know it

Artists and bands selling music directly to fans could be set to overtake and dominate the music retail model as we know it in just 5 short years from now, according to a predicition made by Music Glue's founder, Mark Meharry.

The direct-to-fan approach enabled by platforms such as Music Glue, Bandcamp and Pledge Music, has certainly empowered bands, labels and managers alike over recent years, both for established and emerging acts. As its popularity rises amongst the consumers and fans themselves, it may not be long before the music retail middle man is eliminated from the equation altogether.
