Sŵn Festival have announced a new training, advice and practical support pilot-scheme for musicians in Wales, Barod.
Barod, which means ready in Welsh, is an intensive programme and series of stand-alone workshops dedicated to artists needing extra support to make it big in the business.
In February, March and April 2017, industry experts from across the UK will come to Cardiff to impart their knowledge on all the latest music business trends, from marketing and developing a fan base to making and managing money.
With sessions for artists on the tip of success and workshops for those just starting out, Barod will consist of three main parts.
1. How The Music Business Works
An intensive programme of eight two¬-hour seminars delivered by Chris Cooke of Shoreditch-¬based music training and consultancy, CMU. The programme will cover how to build and engage a fan base, how record deals are structured and evolving and how to set up an artist business.
2. Stand-alone artist development workshops
From mastering your technical rider and building a fan base to managing financials, these one off workshops are targeted at artists in the early stages of their music career. More details of these sessions will be announced later this year.
3. Welsh Music Industry Gathering April 7th, 2017
A day for musicians at all stages, plus anyone involved across the wider music industry in Wales.
More information announced early 2017.
John Rostron, co-founder of Sŵn Festival and the Welsh Music Prize, said: “At Sŵn we work with hundreds of bands every year. Many ask us for help or advice and we found there were particular issues that kept coming back again and again. It was this that inspired us to create Barod.
“We want to focus on practical training and workshops to give bands the tools they need to help their career or make their lives in a band much easier, so they can get on making music and playing shows.
“It’s a really exciting step for us to branch out from being promoters and festival makers into offering this new way to support music in Wales.”
