The Whisky Sessions launches new unsigned act competition

News: 2nd October 2014 by Louise Dodgson under Live, Recording & Production

The Whisky Sessions, the North’s brand new music and whisky festival coming to Victoria Warehouse in Manchester this November, has today announced that, as well as showcasing some of the UK’s most celebrated artists, they’ll be giving the region’s undiscovered musicians a chance to shine too.

With 24 bands performing across 2 stages, The Whisky Sessions is a ground-breaking new winter music festival with a whisky twist.

Featuring I Am Kloot and Gomez as headline acts on 21st & 22nd November respectively, the 2 day festival will also see performances from British Sea Power, Turin Brakes, Badly Drawn Boy, Tim Burgess, Dodgy, Little Comets and many more….

Against the vibrant music backdrop, whisky experts, mixologists and bartenders will be on hand to introduce festivalgoers to whiskies from around the world. The team from Manchester’s Whiskey Jar will be concocting some unique whisky cocktails especially for the event.

Whisky has been the source of inspiration for countless musicians over the years, from the roots to the forefront of the industry. Therefore the Festival thought it was only right to strengthen this bond by introducing some inspirational emerging talent to festival-goers…. so the search is now on!

The Festival has announced an online competition, which is open to any unsigned musician that would like a chance to open the Festival’s main stage on Saturday 22nd November , with the winner also receiving a professional recording session at Castle Rock Studios in Cheshire!

To be in with a shot of winning, bands simply have to visit the website below where they can find full details of how to enter.

Eight acts will be shortlisted and put through to the live final, which will take place on the evening of Wednesday 29th October at The Whiskey Jar in Manchester.  The acts who have been chosen to go through to the live final will be announced on 17th October, so bands wanting to get involved should sign up before that.

The finalists will be judged by a panel of judges from across the music industry, spanning the live, recording, and media sectors, including:

Maz from Communion Music & XFM DJ
Sarah Walters, Music Writer for Manchester Evening News & City Life
John ”Stret” Stretford - Managing Director of Castle Rock Studios.

Communion promoter and XFM DJ Maz Tappuni said, “Communion Music prides itself on providing a platform for the best young talent, so when The Whisky Sessions asked us to be involved we thought it was a great idea. I’m really looking forward to helping unearth a brilliant new act through this competition to open the festival in November!”

John Stretford of Castle Rock Studios comments…  “Castle Rock Studios are delighted to be involved in the Whiskey Sessions Unsigned band competition which once again demonstrates our passion for the unsigned sector and our intent on helping bands, Rehearse-Record-Perform.”

Successful finalists will be notified by October 17th.

Terms and conditions are on the website and should be read before entry.
