Help Musicians UK unveils latest Emerging Excellence Artists

News: 21st March 2014 by Louise Dodgson under Artist Managers, Music Training & Careers

Leading music charity Help Musicians UK has announced the latest winners of the Emerging Excellence Awards, which offer funding to help upcoming artists develop their careers.

27 acts will receive grants of up to £3,500 each. The funding will support a range of activity including recording, promotion, touring, mentoring and creative development.

The winners include fast-rising Derry band Little Bear, Scottish singer-songwriter Robin Adams and London collective DeLooze. Artists are drawn from across the musical spectrum, from indie rock and alternative pop to jazz, electronic, folk and classical.

On receiving the award, DeLooze says: "This award could not have come at a better time. With the debut album in the bag, an amazing team on board and imminent album tour on the way, this can only help set us off on the right foot. I'm so grateful to all at Help Musicians UK and thank everyone involved for believing in me and for seeing this projects potential."

A team of music industry experts whittled down a record 231 applications and selected acts had to pitch their proposal, ‘Dragon’s Den’-style, to a panel of advisors.

Panellists included multi-platinum selling songwriter and record producer Martin Sutton, artist manager and owner of RedGrape Records Kerry Harvey-Piper, Director of Film & TV UK/Europe at ASCAP Simon Greenaway, and Nick Keynes, Partner at Tileyard Studios.

Since launching in 2012, the awards have supported nearly 100 rising stars across many genres of music. David Sulkin OBE, Executive Director of Help Musicians UK says: “Making it as a musician is a difficult thing if you don’t have the funding to get you off the ground. Our Emerging Excellence Awards give a financial boost to young professionals with the best ideas. We are very excited to be supporting such vibrant and ambitious talent.”

The next round of applications will open on 1 May 2014. Find out more via the link below.
