We received contact from a filmmaker involved in a charity event and on the look out for some great, original music to feature. So let us hand over to the cheeky chaps that make up the senior men's rowing team at Warwick University to provide more information about how you could be involved & support a great cause:
We are the senior men’s rowing team at Warwick University, and for the last four years we’ve been getting our kit off for calendars and films that raise funds for our sport and for charity. Last year, we joined the fight to combat bullying and homophobia, and got an amazing response that moved us all, and took our little project to a whole new level.
Stephen Fry, Boy George, John Barrowman and Derren Brown are among the celebrities who now support to our cause. But what really moved us was the people who wrote to us from all over the world, sharing stories of the difficulties they faced in coming to terms with their sexuality against a backdrop of bullying and hate, not least from the “sporty types” at school. To honour these people, we plan to launch a programme of outreach activity aimed at young people. This will tackle homophobia and bullying from the perspective of sportsmen and sportswomen, using school visits, viral media, helplines and an international website.
The film we are releasing will help to raise funds for our fight against homophobia, and we really need your help. As before, the film will follow us as we shoot our naked calendar. Last year’s film, called “Brokeback Boathouse” was acclaimed as charming, slick, sexy and classy. Here is a , which has been watched by more than 650,000 people around the world.
This year, our plan to launch an outreach campaign has already attracted coverage from the BBC, CNN, ITV, Grazia and a wide range of gay media, so we want to take this to the next level! To make this year’s film stand out, we want to cut our footage to quality, original music. Easy enough with a Hollywood budget, but we don’t have one of those. So here is what we can offer instead:
• on-screen credits and signposting for music, both at the end of the film and more importantly at the point where the piece of music is played
• permission to use excerpts from the film with your music for your own promotional purposes (including as a music video for commercial music sales)
• an opportunity to be associated with a great cause, supported by major international celebrities, including Boy George
• a key role in the film – your music will not be wallpaper, it will be front and centre.
We are open to all genres, because good is good. There will be scope for high energy, up tempo pieces and sparse, thoughtful pieces, and everything in between. We’re not ruling anything out! Instrumental tracks are particularly welcome, and lyrics in songs will need to be in keeping with the positive, inclusive themes of the film. It’s not a Disney film, though – sexy is good!
Please submit music with title, artist name and contact details to and use this address for any queries, too. If the file is too big for an email, we suggest you use wetransfer.com. Deadline for submissions is 30 August 2013.
