Viacom & MTV unveil new artist platform

Artist.MTV is the new online platform created by MTV and Viacom allowing artists and bands to set up their own profiles, and it's open to all; whether they have had MTV coverage in the past or not. They have also hooked up with Songkick to incorporate live dates onto profiles, not to mention Topspin who will have their direct to fan facilities integrated within the site.
There has certainly been a gap in the market since the decline of MySpace for a platform dedicated solely to musicians, so could this collaboration be the one to fill the void successfully? Time will tell...
