Universal to sell off 3 EMI labels to clear debt

Universal Records has proposed to put Virgin Records, plus EMI's Classical and Jazz labels up for sale in order to acquire ownership of major label EMI. Whilst this is one of several plans being thrown around in order for EU Commission to agree for the acquisition to go ahead, the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC) have spoken out about the sale of these record labels. The FAC have quite rightly pointed out that if the catalogues are being streamlined then perhaps it would be appropriate to offer the artists in question the 'first right' to bid and buy back their own work, should they wish.
