The problems faced by small music venues

You will probably remember the troubles that The 100 Club faced last year with closure imminent, and after much appealing a sponsorship deal from Converse saved the music venue from an unfortunate fate. TJ's in Newport, The Charlotte in Leicester have shut their doors recently and many other gig venues on the UK touring circuit are struggling in today's climate.

The Guardian have published an article about the plight of small scale venues, however this has spawned an interesting response posted on Music Tank, from previous music venue owner Andy Inglis, who himself has gone through the process of shutting down The Luminaire and summarises, other than the recession, the factors that should be taken into account when faced with wrapping up your small business. Both articles make for a very interesting read...
