Live Music Bill becomes the law!
News: 9th March 2012 by Louise Dodgson under Live

The Live Music Bill became the Live Music Act yesterday so it is now official! The legislation means that venues in England and Wales with a capacity of less than 200 no longer have to apply for permission to put on live music between 8am and 11pm. Obviously, the passing of this bill back in January has been instrumental in encouraging small venues to put on live music and this in turn is great news for emerging bands and artists who will have more opportunities to play in appropriately sized venues on their way up the gig ladder.
It is not very often that a private bill is given the royal assent to acknowledge it as a law, so this is a really important achievement which has taken nothing short of 30 years of campaigning by musicians and the music industry to reach such a result. Pats on the back all round, we say!
