Women in the music industry celebrated with panel at Roundhouse

Hosted by website Wears the Trousers, this panel and clinic session gives you the opportunity to pose your questions to some of the prominent females in the UK music industry.

Are you trying to get into the music industry? Want advice from industry professionals? EKO have invited Wears The Trousers magazine to host a music industry panel discussion that will give you the chance to get a real insight into the music industry. You can also have one-on-one time with panel members to ask questions and show or play your work in an individual ‘clinic’ session.

Viv Albertine
Born in Sydney, Viv Albertine was brought up in Muswell Hill. Aged 17, she dropped out of art school to work at Dingwalls music venue in Camden Town. Immersing herself in music, she met Mick Jones, saw The Sex Pistols’ first show, and bought ‘Horses’, by Patti Smith. She also formed a band with Sid Vicious, Sarah and Palmolive called The Flowers of Romance. Childhood friend Keith Levene started to teach her to play guitar and developed her musical ear. After seeing The Slits play their first show, she called them the next day and joined them. She later went to film school and worked as a film director for about ten years.
Ruth Daniel
Ruth Daniel is a creative social music entrepreneur. She was Founder and Director of Manchester based independent record label, Fat Northerner Records (2003 – 2010); is Director of new seaside ‘festival of festivals’, One of These Days; and is founder and Director of Un-Convention, a global grassroots music event and community that shares cutting edge ideas about music and change. Ruth also manages a Times Higher Award winning research project at The University of Manchester, ‘In Place of War,’ that represents and researches a creative community in sites of armed conflict.
Jen Long
After graduating from Cardiff University in 2006 – where she studied Journalism and managed Xpress Radio – Jen Long embarked on a trail of jobs which led to her becoming the presenter of BBC Radio 1’s Introducing in Wales. Jen also promotes shows, DJs, runs the Kissability label and writes articles for NME, The Line Of Best Fit, Artrocker, Rockfeedback, and the BBC Reviews website.
Lucy Wood
Eat Your Own Ears prides itself on promoting music from across the spectrum of genres in the hope of bringing together different groups of music fans and delivering inspiring music to all. As the creative brains behind Field Day, Underage and The Apple Cart, they fill London's Victoria Park with merriment and revelry for young, old and those inbetween on an annual basis. Lucy has been aboard the good ship EYOE for just under 5 years and has previously worked at 19 Entertainment and Warp Records.
Annette Lee
Annette Lee is Head of Press at 4AD, a British independent record label that forms part of the Beggars Group, along with Matador Records, Rough Trade Records and XL Recordings. 4AD’s current recording artists include Ariel Pink, The Big Pink,Blonde Redhead, Bon Iver, Camera Obscura, Deerhunter, Gang Gang Dance, Grimes, The National, Scott Walker, St. Vincent, Twin Shadow, and tUnE-yArDs. In 2011 Annette won Best In-House PR Person at Record of the Day Awards for Music Journalism and PR.
Alan Pedder
Alan Pedder is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Wears The Trousers, a UK-based independent online (and occasionally in print) magazine that’s aimed at promoting women in music.
