Academy Of Contemporary Music opens regional centre

News: 6th December 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Music Training & Careers

The Academy Of Contemporary Music (ACM) is to bring its world-class professional music training to the South Coast with the launch in January 2012 of ACM Regional South Coast, its very first regional centre in the UK.  Located in Bournemouth, ACM Regional South Coast will take over from The Music Factory, which has been providing music education in the area since 2004, and will offer musicians the opportunity of a career in the music industry through a range of courses previously unavailable outside of ACM’s Guildford base.

ACM has long recognised that not everyone has the ability to relocate or travel to its centre in Guildford, particularly at either a part-time or Further Education (FE) study level. ACM Regional is the Academy’s way of ensuring more people have access to the ACM experience, but at a location more convenient to them. Full and part-time courses will be delivered within these Regional Centres utilising ACM curriculum and methodology: each centre will also have to meet stringent quality control measures to maintain its approved status, and ACM will work in partnership with them to ensure each centre reaches its maximum potential.

Approved Regional Centres will teach up to and including Further Education study. Each course has been designed to progress naturally through to a Higher Education (HE) study level, which can be undertaken at the main ACM in Surrey; giving students a progressive study path. The very first of these centres, ACM South Coast, is created in partnership with the team from The Music Factory.

Speaking about the launch, Julia Leggett, Executive Director of ACM Commercial, said, “ACM Regional represents another initiative that fulfils our objective of bringing the ACM curriculum and ethos to a wider audience. Each Regional Centre will mirror the main centres within each country, creating an outreach programme that will allow more young people access to our award-winning music-learning programmes. Coupled with the successful launch of the youth franchises, we are ever closer to achieving our goal of international access to contemporary music education the ACM way.”

Rob Birchall, Director of ACM Regional South Coast said, "We want our passion to spread into the community. From beginners to dedicated players, there is a course here for everyone. Musicians and aspiring musicians, young and old, have a truly fantastic opportunity to become a part of something that is globally recognised as a market leader and innovator. It is a privilege for us to be a part of this venture".
