Bella Union roster unites to help labels affected by Sony warehouse fire

News: 31st August 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Finance, Law & Music Business, Record Labels, Selling & Distributing Your Music

Bella Union’s roster has united to try and help some of the PIAS-distributed labels affected by the recent Sony DADC warehouse fire. Fleet Foxes, Explosions In The Sky, Midlake, Beach House, Lanterns On The Lake, The Walkmen, The Low Anthem, I Break Horses, Veronica Falls, Alessi’s Ark, Zun Zun Egui, Andrew Bird, Treefight for Sunlight and many others have donated a special signed t-shirt EACH which will all be part of a one-off eBay Auction.

Simon Raymonde, boss of the label says,  “The bands really wanted to help when they heard what had happened. Even though Bella Union is NOT a label that’s affected directly, we still feel the grief of our friends, and this is a community that cares. I have seen it in the past, when my own label HAS been on the brink of collapse after Pinnacle went bust, and we’re just happy to now return a piece of that goodwill.”

15 of the Bella Union’s artists have given a t-shirt each for the auction, which is being made available as one job lot, with all proceeds going to the fund set up to help labels affected by the Sony DADC warehouse fires.

The auction is open now and will run until 11.30am BST 9th September 2011

Bella Union: Bella Union is a London-based independent record label that was formed in 1997 by members of Cocteau Twins. One of the first artists to sign was Dirty Three, an instrumental trio from Australia, and since then the label has found the majority of its bands in the USA like Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Beach House, The Walkmen, Laura Veirs, Explosions In The Sky, Vetiver for example, yet more recently a love-affair with Scandinavia has seen the label develop new young artists like I Break Horses, Treefight for Sunlight. In 2011, label boss Simon Raymonde rediscovered his affection for British music again, lost since 1979, and has signed Veronica Falls, Cashier no9, Lanterns On The Lake, and Bristol four-piece Zun Zun Egui. The ethos of the label is simple, as Raymonde puts it " to run a label that I would like to have been signed to myself ".

Association of Independent Music: AIM is a not-for-profit trade body established in 1999 to represent the UK independent music industry.
