Apply to play SPLIT Transmission

News: 18th July 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Live

With SPLIT Festival just around the corner Generator, Split Festival and The Bunker are calling young musicians to get involved in an official Split Festival Fringe event. All tracks must be submitted by 27th July.

On Saturday 10th September, the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens will host a spectacular day of music from the North East’s rising stars.  And we’re looking for the finest new and young artists in the region to play an official Split Festival Fringe event to celebrate emerging North East music.

Five slots are available for emerging artists at the event to play alongside two of the region’s biggest buzz bands in front of an all-ages crowd and music industry experts, including legendary broadcaster and champion of new music Tom Robinson.

Previous Transmission events with Tom Robinson have helped to unearth the likes of Vinyl Jacket, Let’s Buy Happiness, Polarsets and Chased by Wolves.  Performers have all been played on Tom’s national BBC 6Music Introducing show and the likes of Let’s Buy Happiness and Vinyl Jacket (first seen by Tom at our events) have been heavily supported by BBC Introducing – playing Maida Vale sessions and Glastonbury Festival.

Tom will be joined on the panel by a number of special guests who are best placed to advise the bands, identify new opportunities and fast-track their careers.

Bands and solo artists (of any genre) are invited to submit their music via www.generator.org.uk/split-transmission, by Wednesday 27th July and then the best entrants will be selected  to join the line-up.

Split Festival is Sunderland’s biggest and best music festival and takes place at Ashbrooke Sports Club on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September, with many Fringe events planned in association with The Bunker, Sunderland’s best loved centre for the development of music and arts.

Joe Frankland, Musician Support Manager at Generator says:
“Transmission brings young people together to research and celebrate popular music broadcasting in the North East.  Split Transmission is an amazing opportunity for emerging artists to play in a unique environment as part of Sunderland’s biggest and best music festival.  We’re all looking forward to listening to submissions and unearthing the region’s best new artists.”
