Not only has the rise of the smartphone and mobile technology affected how music is consumed, listened to and shared, it also throws up some other inevitable issues. The monetising of digital music always has and still is a problem which the music industry is trying to come to terms with, and the addition of mobile payments into the mix has added a new dimension of confusion for the music business to unpick.

Of course, consuming music via an alternative platform such as mobile also creates the opportunity for piracy and file sharing...yet another issue to trouble the music industry at large.
