Learn live sound from a professional

News: 11th April 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Live, Music Training & Careers, Recording & Production

Seasoned engineer Sophie Grant takes up the reins at Point Blank Music College in the fastest growing area of the music business…

There is no better way to learn a craft than actually doing it for real.  And no better qualified person to teach it than a successful, experienced practitioner.  So with that in mind, Point Blank announce the latest addition to their teaching team in the shape of Live Sound Engineer Sophie Grant who brings a credible, busy and active resume with her.

Sophie has toured the world as Front of House sound engineer with artists such as Jamie T, Kate Nash, The Datsuns, Ben Hudson and The Noisettes at scores of major venues in cities worldwide from London , Hamburg , Rome to Tokyo and at festivals such as Glastonbury, T in the Park, Reading Festival, V Festival UK, as well as a host of European counterparts. Sophie is therefore extremely well placed to pass on the knowledge of how to mix bands live to up and coming talent. This she does on Point Blank’s Live Sound Engineering Certificate which gives you the opportunity to mix 6 live gigs in 6 months at various top London venues.

Sophie says:  "I am really excited about teaching the Advanced Live Sound Course at Point Blank. We will be taking a detailed look into all aspects of becoming a top live sound engineer on the international touring circuit. The whole course is designed specifically to do hands on work in venues with musicians and working sound engineers. It’s the only way to learn live sound. I am looking forward to getting started.”

As well as supervised, hands on practice at sound engineering at 6 gigs (one for each month of the course) you learn in detail the ins and outs of getting the most out of any PA to make the bands you mix sound hot.  Point Blank live sound students will also get the opportunity to gain professional experience in live audio mixing at Dalston Roof Park events starting this summer as well as work experience opportunities at the Barfly in Camden and Vibe bar Shoreditch.

There are more jobs in live music than ever for the right candidates: get on the course now!
