Mercury Records call time on CD singles
News: 31st March 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Record Labels, Selling & Distributing Your Music

Mercury Records have decided to shift entirely to downloads where their single releases are concerned, as they announced last week they would no longer be issuing CD singles. Physical products have failed to bring in profits over the past year for the label and with the majority of their single sales being MP3 format, there is no longer the need to produce singles on CD or vinyl, although the label bosses have said they will still release physical singles in special circumstances (i.e. when they know they can rake in plenty of cash from high-demand releases!). Could this be a sign of things to come for other record labels?
