Tony Wilson's legacy to live on through aspiring NW promoters
News: 19th January 2011 by Louise Dodgson under Live, Music Training & Careers

Behind every successful band is a series of truly memorable gigs that either marked their ascent from raw talent to real contenders or sealed their reputation as world-class heroes. After all, where would The Stone Roses be without Spike Island or Oasis without their first buzz-inducing gigs at The Boardwalk?
Commissioned by Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, Crisis Management was selected to look at ways of implementing live music development ideas that were the brainchild of music industry legend Tony Wilson and partner Yvette Livesey. Their plan for fostering a vibrant music scene in the region is about to be realised through the establishment of Sound Investment.
Karen Boardman of Crisis Management said: “It is both and honour and a pleasure to continue the work started here in Pennine Lancashire by Tony and Yvette back in 2005. Sound Investment aims to help and support the 200 or so small music related businesses and the 100’s of undiscovered bands in this area.”
With a Grant for the Arts Award from the Arts Council NW plus funding from Regenerate, Vision + Media, Creative Lancashire and private sector sponsorship, Sound Investment are pleased to announce the first strand of this support.
In partnership with Liverpool Sound City and the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) - Sound Investment is supporting the next generation of great promoters and music entrepreneurs to develop their craft in Pennine Lancashire with the Promoter Network Training Scheme.
This brand new initiative will feature seminars from leading names in the industry as well as offer the opportunity to become involved in next year’s Liverpool Sound City festival.
The Scheme will take place on 26 January and 2 February 2011 and offers 20 funded places for new and existing promoters to develop the skills and the knowledge needed to become successful in this competitive sector of the music industry.
On completion of the course there’ll be the opportunity for the four best promoters to run the first set of heats in March 2011 for the exclusive, Oh, To Play Sound City. The first of its kind for the Liverpool festival, Oh,To Play Sound City gives bands from Pennine Lancashire the amazing opportunity to perform in front of a panel of music industry experts where they will judge a winner eligible not only to perform at this year’s Sound City Festival, but also receive free time in a state of the art recording studio.
In addition, a brand new website designed specifically for the music community in the area will be launched to enable communication between bands and music businesses and to pass on information from the wider music industry.
The region is already buzzing with fresh, undiscovered talent, from bands, DJs and MCs to promoters and sound engineers, and now there is an opportunity to support this creative hub and create future music legends.
The launch event for Sound Investment will be held at The ACE Centre in Nelson, Colne on Thursday February 17th 2011 in association with Radio Lancashire who will be broadcasting live from the event.
