Unless you wish to operate on a DIY basis forever, at some point down the line a band or artist will require investment in some form or other. Record companies were traditionally the port of call for artists ready to move up the ladder, but these days they have less money to take financial risks on bands that may not recoup on sales.

So, where else can bands turn for a cash injection? Banks? Private equity firms? Sponsorship? Some of these options are viable, however artists still need a certain level of recognition under their belts for companies to be confident in spending their cash.
