Want to write award-winning music for film and TV?

News: 4th October 2010 by Louise Dodgson under Media, Music Training & Careers

City Showcase, the not for profit organisation which supports new music and upcoming talent, is hosting a masterclass for aspiring film and TV music writers. The event 'Settling The Score' will be led by award-winning film and TV composer Debbie Wiseman (Wilde, Jekyll, Flood, Land Girls) together with talented young TV director Steve Hughes (Land Girls, Dream Team, Doctors, Holby City). The event takes place at the Dean St Studios in central London on Tuesday 19 October at 7.30pm.

The emphasis of the masterclass will be on giving advice on practical skills required by successful film and TV composers, and on sharing insider knowledge from people who know. Using clips from Debbie and Steve’s recent BBC TV collaboration Land Girls, it will feature a live ‘case study’ to give the audience a unique insight into the world of music for the media.

Debbie Wiseman, who was awarded an Ivor Novello for her soundtrack to Wilde, will be giving advice and sharing tips on the skills needed to compose for the small and big screen. Director Steve Hughes will be discussing the director's role in the partnership and answering questions such as: How does a composer work with a director? And, what determines whether the collaboration will work or fail?

Settling The Score is FREE to attend but attendees should register in advance to secure their place and avoid disappointment on the night. To register, email [email protected] with Settling the Score in the subject line. City Showcase members get their first beer free courtesy of Sun Lik.
