The Summit event welcomes HMV top dog

News: 8th September 2010 by Louise Dodgson under Live, Music Training & Careers, Selling & Distributing Your Music

High street music retail chain HMV’s CEO Simon Fox, who led the take-over venues and festivals owner MAMA Group earlier this year, will be the principle keynote speaker at LIVE UK The Summit.

Having already branded several major venues with the HMV tag, Fox says his aim for the company is to “have a venue in every major city”, and provide a comprehensive service for music fans.

“We want HMV to be the first port of call for people when they think about entertainment – tickets, venues, festivals, digital, physical product, merchandise, film and fashion,” says Fox. “We want as much of their entertainment wallet as we can get.”

The Summit’s executive producer Steve Parker, who is also managing editor of LIVE UK magazine, says, “Simon Fox is driving one of the greatest changes the industry has seen, by combining a major high street brand, record sales, ticketing, venues, festivals and a powerful music-focused website.

“Not only will what HMV achieves in the live sector have a huge impact, if successful, but it will also change the shape of music marketing and distribution for the wider music industry.”

Among other major speakers at the event will be John Giddings of Solo, agent for artistes such as Madonna, U2 and the Rolling Stones; Neil Warnock, worldwide CEO of The Agency Group; Sonisphere festival co-founder Stuart Galbraith of Kilimanjaro Live; CAA agent Emma Banks, Primary Talent International agent Dave Chumbley and See Group CEO Rob Wilmshurst.

The Summit is followed by the inaugural Live Music Business Awards (LMBAs), which will present accolades across 25 categories, ranging from Best Venue Teamwork and Agent of the Year to Unsung Hero and Best Record Company Partner.

The Summit takes place on 6-7 October at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London’s West End, with the LMBAs on the second night.

Summit registration costs £315 + VAT, with a special rate of £275 + VAT available until 10 September.

Those attending range from operators of stadia to pub landlords, from festival and media event organisers to brands and marketing executives, record labels and scores of other service providers.
