With the live music scene in the North East producing many of the UK's most talked about artists at the moment, The Head of Steam Ltd are looking to build on this success and set more acts on their way after them.

This autumn the group is launching a series of gigs to identify the best emerging music in the North East and provide opportunities for a chosen artist to play at major UK festivals and at live venues in this region and further afield.

One artist will also get to record a single and b-side at Blank Studios, including mixing and mastering.

Showcase gigs at The Head of Steam venues LYH and The Cluny will narrow the field week by week and will include prizes for participants as well as support and guidance to develop them and help them to gain attention.

Panellists made up of management from The Head Of Steam Ltd, staff from the UK's leading music development agency, Generator, and music industry figures will help to choose who will receive a grand prize package which will include the recording session, a slot at Evolution Weekender 2011 and other high-profile opportunities.

Beginning on October 5, 2010 at LYH on Northumberland Road in Newcastle city centre, fortnightly showcases will run through the winter with a final gig being held at The Cluny on March 29, 2011.
