Festivals advised to stop big spending on artists

It is common knowledge that a band or artist needs to embrace the live music scene if they want to make money in today's music industry. And as such, it seems that the fees being demanded by bigger acts for festival slots are growing larger and larger, despite the recession.
The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) are rightfully concerned about the festivals who are meeting these demands and say that massive expenditure on artists could lead to festivals being cancelled or closed down altogether. This would in turn leave music fans with less choice, and may see bigger scale and more corporate events monopolise the festival market as they will be the only ones able to secure big name headliners. And less independent festivals will also lead to less opportunities for unsigned acts in this area...
