Selling your music online may mean you have less overheads to contend with than getting CDs pressed, but according to these figures generated in the US the revenue to be made from online music is considerably less. Streaming sites seem to come off worst of all in the stats with songs on Spotify requiring a whopping 4.5 million plays to result in an artist hitting minimum wage in the US.
