Local music scenes a thing of the past?

Before the age of the internet bands would work & work their local scene until their popularity propelled them beyond their immediate vicinty and the rest of the world caught on. These days new music from around the world is very kindly placed in front of your eyes and ears via the many music blogs, websites and social networking tools.

We are all familiar with the music scenes generated from various cities across the globe from the Madchester craze to the wave of grunge which oozed out of Seattle. But have these trends been gradually wiped out by the web? The article below investigates whether this is the case.
