Q&A: Dan Parrott, Love & Disaster

Manchester music’s movers and shakers give us their unique perspective on the best (and worst) of working with unsigned acts…

Dan Parrott, formerly of Channel M Music, is now head honcho for Love & Disaster, a new music and media company placing itself at the very heart of the Manchester music scene

Favourite Manchester bands:
Dutch Uncles, Airship, Wu Lyf, Delphic, MAY68, Everything Everything

What’s the best way for unsigned bands to approach you?
Just a MySpace link will surfice – you can send them to [email protected]

How can they make an impression?
It couldn't be any more simple - write and record some new and exciting music. Anyone citing their influences as Oasis, The Happy Mondays, Stone Roses etc. aren't going to make a great introduction.

What’s you biggest bugbear when it comes to dealing with unsigned bands?
Bands over-hyping themselves and being unrealistic.

Top tip for unsigned bands:

Be humble, don't use random quotes from people like 'best band in the world'... just let your music do the talking. To be honest, if you’re good, record labels will find you.
