The results are in! What's the cost of being a musician?

Blog by Louise Dodgson under Artist Managers, Creative & Branding, Finance, Law & Music Business, Live, Media, Music Publishing, Music Training & Careers, Record Labels, Recording & Production, Selling & Distributing Your Music

A few months ago we conducted a survey amongst bands, artists, independent musicians and music-makers to find out what they were spending on the various aspects of their music careers; from purchasing instruments and gear, rehearsals and recordings, getting to and from gigs, promoting themselves and the like.

We also asked where the money came from to fund this expenditure. As expected, many of you committed musicians work very hard to keep the money coming in to develop your projects, putting on your creative hats where possible to take on tasks yourselves, or get your dedicated fans involved,  in order to cut costs where possible.

We believe there is always much inspiration and knowledge to be gained from hearing from other bands, artists and musicians in similar circumstances, so we hope you find the results we’ve published from our survey ‘What’s the cost of being a musician?’ useful and insightful and find some food for thought in there.

So why not find out what fellow music-makers just like you are spending and how they are making their band finances work for them, not to mention the things they too are struggling with financially. Contact us here with the subject ‘Survey’ and we’ll email the full report to you so you can peruse to your heart’s content.  And finally, a very large thank you to all who took time out to complete the survey and offer their views. We couldn’t have done it without you!
