Bearded Theory Festival launches unsigned band competition
News: 31st October 2013 by Louise Dodgson under Artist Managers, Live

Bearded Theory Festival is underlining its commitment to the best new music by offering a unique chance for unsigned bands to appear at the 2014 event.
What’s more, fans will be able to choose which acts are selected to appear at the festival, which takes place from May 22-25 in a striking new location, Catton Hall in South Derbyshire.
The Bearded Breakthrough competition has launched today (Oct 31) through the festival’s Facebook page below and there will be two winners – one to play its Main Stage and one for the Tornado Town second stage. The contest is open to acts in all genres who have not appeared at Bearded Theory previously.
Bearded Theory spokesman John Atkin says: “Throughout the history of Bearded Theory we’ve taken pride in mixing great name acts with the best in new and up-and-coming acts, and in letting our festival goers have their say in who appears. For 2014, we’re offering unsigned acts the prospect of exposure before a great audience, with slots on our two biggest stages.
“Already for 2014, we are working closely with local venues to support live music year-round, and the Bearded Breakthrough competition is an extension of that commitment.”
Joy Division/New Order main man Peter Hook and his band The Light, Oysterband, The Blockheads and Fishbone are among acts already confirmed for Bearded Theory 2014, with headliners still to be announced.
The move to Catton Hall, home of Bloodstock Open Air and the Big Session festivals, means Bearded’s organisers can take full advantage of a four-day event, with music starting on Thursday May 22nd and continuing through the Bank Holiday weekend until late on Sunday 25th.
Investment in the site means it boasts better-than-ever facilities for camping and live-in vehicles, as well as improved drainage, and the arrival of Bearded Theory will generate a £1m boost for the local economy through the use of local suppliers and incoming investment.
Tickets are now on general sale, with the price of a family ticket cheaper than it was in 2013. A payment plan is available to spread the cost and – representing even further value for money – Bearded Theory remains one of a dwindling number of festivals where the audience can take their own drink into the concert areas.
Bearded Theory weekend tickets are now on sale with adult tickets priced at £87 + booking fee. No day tickets will be made available.
