Gig of the fortnight: Alan McGee's Greasy Lips Club, Ruby Lounge, Saturday 6th March
You can say what you like about Alan McGee (though we’d recommend you make sure that he’s not in the immediate vicinity first…), but the man knows his music.
Now the eccentric icon who discovered Oasis, managed The Charlatans and was miraculously able to keep The Libertines from fighting long enough to produce one of the greatest debut albums of all time is coming to Manchester with a brand new club night.
All the bands that play at Alan McGee’s Greasy Lips Club, which will take place at The Ruby Lounge on the first Saturday of every month from March onwards, will be handpicked be Mr. McGee and his cohort Jamie Kelly, so it’s pretty much guaranteed that the launch night will be a good ‘un.
Names on the line up include Greg Griffin (formerly of Proud Mary), The Paper Spaceman, Humanizer, Superevolver, The Causeway and Vespa. Following on from the gig, Alan will be taking to the decks for a DJ set; we can picture the demos from hopeful local bands slowly piling up on edge of the booth already…
We’re hopeful that the rather unpleasant name will prove to be the only suspect thing about this new night. Plus, if you manage to get a moment with the great man himself and bend his ear about your fantastic musical stylings, who knows what he could do for your career?
Tickets: £6 adv, 8pm.
