Gig of the fortnight: Blind Atlas/Jo Rose, Sound Control, Tuesday 16th February
You might be beginning to think that we’re on Sound Control‘s pay role, the amount that we’ve been banging on about it. But we’re not, we promise – we’re just rather overexcited about this new venue and the promise that it brings.
Having recently announced that they’re looking for band’s to play before their ace new club night, Control (see previous blog), Sound Control line up two great country-tinged acts to kick off a night of indie revelry in mellow style on Tuesday 16th February.
Blind Atlas boozy blues has secured them a support slot with Liam Frost and a gig at the recent Friends of Manchester Festival. But don’t let then fool you into thinking that they’re pure Americana devotees; just underneath the surface lingers a rift-heavy, Led Zep aping sound bursting to get out.
Former Fear of Music frontman Jo Rose’s new stuff couldn’t be more different that the persistant fuzzing sound clash his former band doled out. His inclusion on the recent ‘Love & Disaster 1’ EP just proves that there are high hopes for his gentle, stirring tunes.
Forget that it’s a school night, get yourself to Control after – it’s free entry if you’ve been to the gig – break out the bourbon and raise a glass to the glory of banjo.
Tickets: £5, 7pm
