Band of the fortnight: Beat The Radar
Knowledge is power, so arm yourself with some top advice from the Manchester bands who are leading the way…
This week, we chat with Johnny Swift, lead singer of bright hopes Beat The Radar.
Favourite Manchester bands:
Young British Artists, Dutch Uncles, Uranium Lake, Amida, The Ambush, Golden Glow, Airship, Plank, LA Pals, Joe Rose
Have you found the Manchester music scene supportive?
Yes, very. From the moment we signed with Akoustik Anarkhy, we found a great network of people who liked what we were doing and understood us. We've had good support from other Manchester bands also.
What’s your top tip for bands trying to make in this city and beyond?
Search for similar sounding bands and play gigs with them – don’t play 'pay to play' gigs; the promoters are just out to con bands who are new to the city. Do your own thing and don’t be afraid to do something that’s different. Just be yourself. And don’t dress like a c*nt.
What’s next for you?
The next album; we were over the moon with how the first album came out, but the next one's going to be even better.
