Gig of the fortnight: Friends Of Mine 5th Birthday with Dutch Uncles, Night & Day, Friday 4th December
Friends Of Mine has become something of a Mancunian institution over the last five years.
Starting off with some low key gigs in Fallowfield back in 2004, Sam Gardner and Pierre Hall have developed the name into both a popular monthly night at the Deaf Institute and a record label, even spreading the message far and wide to London and Liverpool. Perhaps their finest achievement, though, was recognising the potential in a little know band called The Courteeners and hosting some of their earliest shows…
And, to celebrate five years in the gig-hosting business, Friends Of Mine have picked out one of Manchester’s brightest bands to represent them at their birthday shin-dig. Dutch Uncles’ knack for sporadic, intricate indie-pop has seen them gradually but steadily grow in popularity, culminating recently in two highly attended (and highly praised) In The City gigs.
We suggest you lend your support to this scene-leading night and this great local band and get an insight into how it’s done. The Pains Of Being Pure Of Heart will be on DJ duties after as well, so your whole Friday night out’s sorted.
