 In less than 2 weeks music business types will be descending on Manchester for , the annual international music convention which first started back in 1992. Over the years the event has seen many great bands & artists grace the stages of intimate venues across Manchester city centre; everyone from Placebo and Muse to Friendly Fires and The Wombats, who have consequently gone on to bag themselves record deals and varying levels of world domination. So, to say the opportunity for an emerging band or artist to play at In The City is a good career move is certainly an understatement! Earlier this year we teamed up with ITC for an exclusive competition, giving one lucky unsigned winner the chance to play as part of an official ITC showcase, and perform in front of music industry representatives from around the world. We will reveal our winning band later on in the blog...

But fear not...if you are not playing this year’s In The City there are still plenty of opportunities to gain worthwhile experiences from the 3 day event. With so many music industry delegates from all areas of the business milling around Manchester there are countless opportunities to meet people and network. And delegates attending the convention can also take advantage of interesting, thought-provoking and informative panels which will be taking place daily. have just been announced; covering a huge array of topical subjects surrounding the music industry, and featuring keynote speakers from all walks of the business.
Delegate passes start from £350, however the lovely folk at In The City have very generously provided us with a pair of passes to giveaway to one lucky person. WINNER OF THE UNSIGNED GUIDE SLOT AT ITC 2009 ANNOUNCED!
The entries flew in by the hundreds...and the arguments at The Unsigned Guide HQ began, as we battled our way through many top notch entrants to find our worthy winner of a slot at this year’s In The City! Thanks to all who took the time to enter the competition; we only wish you could all have been given a showcase slot as picking a winner was far from easy. However, there could only be one winner....so allow us to give you a brief introduction to Pocketknife, an unsigned 3 piece from Manchester. Formed in 2007, it will be their first appearance at any kind of showcase of this type, and they’re keen to bring some more exposure and gigs their way from this opportunity.
